It would take an utter moron to be oblivious to the far from usual tone the man was using, even if she wasn’t one of the sharpest tools in the toolshed to begin with. Maybe she should thank her battle and intrinsic survival instincts for that, or she should be grateful she just so happened to be blessed with a small sliver of intelligence for her to take a few steps back as she tried not to let her expression falter. She was scared for sure, but when would her pride ever allow that to be openly displayed?
